Characteristics that have opposites

  

The Adhering and the Separating   and     

 

This tidbit is a continuation of the explanation of the five sets of “pairs” that each letter has one each of.  The previous lessons are now located in the tidbit archives.

The applied tajweed definition of  is: Adhesions most of the tongue to the roof of the mouth when pronouncing the letter. 

The letters that have the characteristic of  are: .  Imam Al-Jazaree said in his poem “al-Muqaddimah”:

One thing that is important to note is that all of the letters of  are also of  group, and therefore all have tafkheem. 

The   and  have  or adhesion of the tongue in the posterior portion of the tongue in the soft palate area while pronouncing either of the letters. 

A far greater portion of the  tongue adheres to the roof of the mouth when pronouncing the two letters:  and .  The adhesion  in these two letters starts at the articulation point and continues backwards in the mouth to the soft palate area.

In applied tajweed, * is defined as: Separation between the tongue and the roof of  the mouth when pronouncing a letter.

The letters of * are the remaining letters in the Arabic alphabet after the four letters ( ) of  are removed.

Applied Definition: Adhesion of most of the tongue to the roof of the mouth when pronouncing the letter.
