46: The Dunes

This chapter was revealed after the previous one entitled crouching 45 and forms
the last of the Ha-Mim series. It is dated prior to winnowing [Winds] 51 and
consists of 35 late Meccan verses arranged in four sections, except for VV. 10 15
ùóó 35, which date from Madina. Verse 21 (III) mentions the dunes in the country
of `Ad in southern Arabia which provide the chapter with it! title.
Here the Prophet is heard pleading with the disbelievers in Mecca. The chapter
also discusses how to treat one's parents (II). Sprites and the Qur'an is a graphic
tale to be found at the end of the chapter (IV).
